LET NOTHING DISTURB YOU

Let nothing disturb you;
Let nothing make you afraid;
All things pass;
But God is unchanging,
Patience is enough for everything.
You who have God lack nothing.
God alone is sufficient.
~Teresa of Avila

The short poem by Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) was found in her prayerbook after her death in 1582, known as St. Teresa's Bookmark". Here are the words of Teresa's "bookmark" in Spanish:Nada te turbe; nada te espante; todo se pasa; Dios no se muda, la paciencia todo lo alcanza. Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta. Solo Dios basta.  Photo is detail from Bernini's scupture, The Ecstasy of St. Teresa.  ( see http://www.students.sbc.edu/oneal08/St.%20Theresa%20in%20Ecstasy.html)
